Art is offered in Tolland Public Schools in all grades Kindergarten through High School.  At each level art subject matter is integrated with language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies.  Tolland is using the state standards to organize their teaching and evaluation of student learning.  These categories are media, elements and principles, content, history and culture, critique, and connections.  These are defined as follows:

Media - selecting and applying media, techniques used with that media, and use processes.  For example, water color, metals, photographic.
Elements and Principles - the different ways visaul characteristics are used to convey ideas.
Content - the range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas.
History and Culture - the relationship of visual arts to history and culture.
Analysis, Interpretation and Evaluation - the meaning, purpose, and quality.
Connections - relationship to other disciplines and to daily life.
