Music Theory

Music is offered in Tolland Public Schools in all grades Kindergarten through high school.  At each level music subject matter is integrated with language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies. Tolland is using the state standards to organize their teaching and evaluation of student learning.  These standards are for students to sing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of songs; play, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of instrumental music; improvise melodies, variations and accompaniments; compose and arrange music; read and notate music; listen to, describe and analyze music; evaluate music and music performances; make connections between music, other disciplines and daily life; and understand music in relation to history and culture.  Concerts are the vehicle for learning the above and are given at regular intervals.
