Class officers run for and are elected to office every year while the class activity council consists of any student volunteers willing to help out. Spirit week, dances, Olympics, class rings, prom, and all senior graduation activities are planned by these important groups of students. |
| Diversity
Members of the Diversity Club learn about other cultures and lifestyles while helping students to understand international affairs and the cultural arts. Diversity Club hosts many events; the most well-known being the Hunger Banquet. The Hunger Banquet is put on every year to draw attention to world hunger and those less fortunate. During the day students fast so they gain an understanding of what it is like to be in need. That night students gather at the school for their meals. Each attendant draws a paper saying what meal plan they are about to receive. Meal plans range from a hearty meal to a bowl of rice. It is the luck of the draw! However, it is a good way to learn about those that are less fortunate. Diversity Club strives to create a tolerant and understanding environment for all races and cultures present here at Tolland High School. |

| JETS
JETS stands for Junior Engineering and Technology Society and is a club of students talented in science and math. These students meet once a week, from September to March, preparing for a spring statewide competition against different schools. At least one team of eight students represents each school. The competition is split into two 90-minute parts in which the whole team works together to solve a given problem. In part I, 100 multiple choice questions are given to the team dealing with air transportation, bridge design, rehabilitation, food analysis, solar-powered vehicles, and food preservation. Dealing with these same issues from part I, in the second half, the students interpret and defend open-ended problems. The first half of the problems are scored for state and local rankings and the second part is ranked nationally. |
| Mock Trial
Mock Trial/ Future Lawyers is an activity that meets once a week starting in October that looks at cases and how to put together a prosecution and a defense. We examine the major issues of different types of court cases and how to proceed. We study how to address the court (opening statements), what the key questions of the individual witnesses would be and then how to cross-examine that person's testimony. We look at the defense side, their possible questions and their point of view. We then examine closing statements and their purpose. We also look at the legal profession and related professions and the types of issues that need proponents and advocates. We also bring in area lawyers to hear our arguments on what we believe to be the important issues in a case. |
